On January 9 2023, research assistants from the Center for Japanese Research had the exciting opportunity to meet Ian McKay, the Ambassador of Canada to Japan at the Asia Pacific Foundation. The Asia Pacific Foundation and the Center of Japanese Research co-hosted a roundtable discussion with Mr.McKay, where Japanese and Canadian business leaders and politicians were able to engage in meaningful discussions regarding Japan-Canada relations and pressing socio-political issues that concern Japan. Ranging from deliberations on Japan’s immigration policy to Kishida’s climate policies, the roundtable proved to be an insightful and educational opportunity for academics and students alike. The Center for Japanese Research is thankful for the time and wisdom Ian McKay imparted to the Asia Pacific Foundation and we hope to host similar events in the future.
